What is it about the events in our past that we can’t let go of? Is it because we feel that there was something that we could have done to change it? Or we feel stupid for letting it happen? I think that we should have a ceremony for all the awful things that have happened in our past. Or do we feel that it will dictate our future? The events in our past don’t have to be the defining point of who we are or who we will always be. If we lived in poverty we are not destined to live in poverty forever. If we never received loved, it doesn’t mean that we are not lovable. We are so much more than what people have told us we are or the circumstances that we grew up in. There is so much greatness in all of us jut waiting to shine it’s light on the world. As it gets closer to my birthday, I always reflect on my life for the past year. The problem with this reflection is that I only reflect on the bad things. The things that I didn’t accomplish. The mistakes that I made. How stupid I was in a situation. Can you imagine how great it would be if I focused on the great things I did? Just think of the energy, focus and creativity that would flow from my fingers if I didn’t dwell on my poop from the past! If I could forgive myself for any mistakes or stupidity and be grateful that I came out on the other side blessed and more knowledgeable. Your past does not have to dictate your future. Think of it as† you just hadn’t realized how great, awesome and beautiful you were. That’s whole lot better than beating yourself up.
Don’t let the sadness of your past & the fear of your future ruin the happiness of your present. (Sorry I don’t know who it’s by! I just loved the quote)
