This Friday is Valentines day. And for those of those of us who don’t have a significant other this time of the year can be lonely. When I was working I use to envy the girls that would get the big bouquet of flowers or balloons. Don’t get me wrong I think love is beautiful. I would love to have someone in my life (and give me flowers!) . But reality is I don’t anyone. What I have learned or as Oprah would say, ” what I know for sure” is that I may not have romantic love right now, but I do have a lot of love in my life. My little boy never forgets to give me one of his Valentines day cards that I get him to give to his class. I have great girlfriends that support and love me and a great family. I think sometimes we focus so much on the love we don’t have or the love we want, we forget the love we do have. We also forget about our capacity to give love to someone else. This could be in the form of a kind word or just doing something nice. Doing something for others can fill your your heart. Every Valentines Day I give my son a card and candy. But I tell him I love him everyday and I think he will remember and value that a lot more than the candy!
“When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”
